Its a well communicated State,
it has a well distributed highway network,
generally all communities have ground access,
whether by federal or state highways or by
paved roads, the length of the highways is
of 8,947.80 km, which gives us a density of
22.56 km for each 100 km2. The rail roads
have a total extension of 605 km, strengthening
the good ground communications; with regards
to aerial communications, we have an airport
and four airfields; the main port is Progreso.
HIGHWAYS
In the city of Merida, converge
several traffic arteries, among which the
most important are the 180 Federal Highway,
that comes from Campeche into the State through
the village of Halacho, continues through
Maxcanu, Chochola, Uman, gets to Merida, continues
to Kanasin, Tahmek, Kantunil, Kava, Cuncunul,
connects with Valladolid, then goes to Chemax
and leaves the State towards Cancun, Q. Roo;
in Kantunil begins the highway that connects
the State with Cancun, similar to the 180
Highway. To get to the City of Progreso, take
the federal highway 261, going through Merida,
Uman, Muna, Santa Elena, and comes into the
State by the village of San Antonio Yaxche,
at the southeast of the State. Highway 295,
located in the eastern area of the State going
from south to north, is a traffic artery that
connects the cities of Valladolid, Tizimin
and ends in Rio Lagartos. At the head of the
municipality of Muna connects the federal
highway num. 184, which comes from Carrillo
Puerto, Q. Roo. In the territory of the State
of Yucatan connects the villages of Tzucacab,
Tekax, Oxkutzcab and Ticul. Another highway
that crosses through Merida is the federal
highway num. 281, that begins in Celestun,
goes through Hunucma, Merida, Motul, Cansahcab,
Dzidzantun, to get to Dzilam Gonzalez. In
addition, the State has a good state highways
network and many paved roads.
RAILROADS
All railroads connect in
the City of Merida, the railroad that comes
from the City of Campeche runs parallel to
Highway 180, enters the State at the southeast
at the Halacho Station, and after passing
by several stations, gets to Merida, and goes
north to Progreso. To the west of the City
of Merida, three railroads depart, the first
goes to Valladolid, connecting the following
villages Conkal, Tixkokob, Calcalchen; from
here, it branches off in two, a small section
goes to Hoctun, the other section goes to
Izamal, then to Tunkas, from this community
a section of the railroad departs for Temax.
From Tunkas, goes on to Dzitas, in front of
this municipal head it branches off again,
with a line to Tizimin and the other to Valladolid.
The second track that leaves from Merida goes
to Tixpeual and joins the first track described
at the village of Tixcocob. The third track
arrives in Peto through Kanasin and Acance
where a section separates towards Sotuta,
connecting the villages of Seye, Hocaba, Sanahcal
y Huhi, the other section continues to Tecoh,
Ticul, Oxkutzcab, Akil, Tekax, Tzucacab and
ends in Peto.
Airports
The main airport is located
in the State Capital of Merida, 20 Km away
from Puerto Progreso, servicing national and
international flights; additionally the state
has four airfields located in the municipalities
of Chochola, Panaba, Tinum and Tizimin.
Ports
The State has approximately
11 ports, the most important located in Progreso,
the activities carried out are tourism, fisheries
and commerce. Other ports that carry out commercial
activities are Yucalpeten; other ports such
as Celestun and Dzilan de Bravo´s main
activity is tourism; in the remaining ports
the activities are related with the trade
industry or fisheries.
