Cucumber exports from Yucatan to the United States and shipped through the Port of Progreso, put Mexico in a leading position due to the volume exported during the 2007 harvest season.

940 refrigerated 40’ containers were exported with cucumber, a total of 18,800 tons, when the previous year, 2006, the amount was of 400 containers with 15,204 tons..

The sipping company that transported these products was Linea Peninsular, from Progreso to Panama Coty in Florida, from where the product is distributed to several supermarket chains, Wal-Mart among them, for their final sale.

For the 2008 season, the growth is expected to continue for these kinds of exports.
